Simply Beautiful!
My repainted vinyl doll Sasha is ready for breezy spring days in this fashion by my friend Marsha.

Inspiration: I found appealing the way these two stems intertwined. The Angelique tulips bloomed in my own garden in 2008.

Emma is holding Betsy.

Here are two Kish dolls that I repainted this April. I removed all the factory paint and tried to create the illusion of real girls. The dresses seem joyfully pretty!

Photo#3 of Emma with Betsy, two Kish dolls. Nancy Lee Moran, portrait artist since 1989, gave these dolls new face painting (face-up) in 2009.

Thank you for visiting my April 2009 Newsletter . . .

I hope we all will find pleasure in the simple beauties of the spring time.

Angelique Tulips: I planted bulbs in 2004, then again in 2007. The blossoms, which are fragrant, remind me of peonies or wild roses. On April 14th the first leaves emerged in my garden. In 2009 spring weather in Nebraska has been a crazy-quilt mix of chilly and warm days.

A Recipe for You . . . SPRING CAKE

For my friend Debi's 2004 birthday cake, I took a fully-opened Angelique tulip, cut the stem off, and misted it with water. I sprinkled it with white crystal sugar and shook off any extra. Then I placed it onto an clear-acetate-plastic circle (to protect the cake), securing it with a piece of rolled tape. Onto the top of the cake it went, where it looked lovely on the strawberry icing. Any kind of tulip would work, as well as a cluster of daffodils.

2008 7x5 oil painting titled Shadow Dance by Nancy Lee Moran in colors of brown, red, yellow, green, violet. Inspiration: Angelique tulips bloomed in my own garden in 2008. I was fascinated by the strong shadows on the softly tilled soil. After I took a reference photo, I mixed all the paint colors in the garden from life observations and altered the flower colors to be less-pink and more-red.
