Lady Kish ivory dress, embellished by the artist:
First I brushed delicate dye-colors to parts of two Venetian (Venice) lace appliques. Then I sewed the appliques to the dress, adding beads as I stitched. Capri Blue 6mm bicone crystals enhanced Rio's eye color (authentic Austrian Swarovski crystal beads) and complemented her hair. Her burnished-gold pumps (shoes) added elegance. ~ Nancy Lee

Dearest Nancy,
WOW! She is just stunning! All the tiny beads you sewed on the applique, and the few blue ones add just the perfect touch to her glorious hair! Since I seem to spend so much time at the computer, I've made room for her on the desk so I can constantly look at her! ~ Jere

Bare Sculpt

About this doll . . .

Rio, a vinyl doll has five (5) points of articulation (joints), at her neck, shoulders, and hips. A quality, strung doll, she is almost 17" tall ~ elegant and graceful. I commend artist Helen Kish for the graceful sculpting of Rio's arms and hands. Truly remarkable! She has a lovely collector's box and a doll stand. "Spirit of Autumn" is from the Facets of the Eternal Feminine by Kish & Company. This doll is part of the Spirit of the Seasons collection, a Limited Edition of 500 Pieces of each season. Spring and Autumn have the Rio face sculpt; Summer and Winter, the Electra face sculpt. The dolls made their debut in 2006.

"Lady Kish" ivory dress, customized by the artist
First I brushed delicate dye-colors to parts of two Venetian (Venice) lace appliques. Then I sewed the appliques to the dress, adding beads as I stitched. Capri Blue 6mm bicone crystals enhanced Rio's eye color (authentic Austrian Swarovski crystal beads) and complemented her hair. Her burnished-gold shoes matched well. ~ Nancy Lee

HER KISH CLOTHES: She also has a high-quality dress and hat in the colors of autumn leaves, white stockings and undies. Kish made the watercolor sketches for the costumes during 2004.

HER EYES: Her eyes sparkle with a mix of green and blue-gray. She has many very-fine eyelashes (upper & lower) and feathered eyebrows using varied colors.

WIG: Her rich-auburn wig is the original Kish one. My beautician feathered the style, to soften it.

PHOTOS: Nancy Lee took all photos in natural daylight coming in her studio window.
Nancy is a portrait artist ~ not a doll distributor, dealer, or shop.

FINISH: Resin-oil glow (gloss) on eyes and satin gloss on lips
A thin veil of clear matte (non-shiny) varnish on rest of her face.

COLOR & PAINTING: Some computer screens may modify the color of the art. Some may make the image lighter or darker than it is. The doll has finer detail and more subtle coloring than a computer-jpeg-photo can show.

After removing all factory paint, I am using artist-grade alkyd-oil paints (in thin translucent glazes) with the addition of alkyd resin to make the paint surface become as flexible as the doll’s vinyl skin and to make it adhere well. I finely sand (Q-tip and finest pumice) the surface before painting it for better adhesion.

Nancy Lee Moran's POLICY TO SHOW RESPECT FOR HELEN KISH & other doll creators is as follows:
The dolls I use were factory painted. I would never repaint a doll that the artist (Helen Kish) had painted herself, such as some of those in the Kish Signature Line. I would not paint one in a limited edition of fewer than 300 (preferably 500 or more). I consult the beautiful book I own: Helen Kish: The Artist and Her Dolls by Louise Fecher (hardcover published in 2006). I am NOT affiliated with any doll company, creator or manufacturer.
