2008 Kish Bitty Brynne Creation as Kiera

Kiera's ORPHAN Story |
Kiera began as a SECONDS doll from the May 1-3, 2009 Kish Convention, Third Time's a Charm.
eBay seller dressadoll returned from the convention with some Bitty Brynne dolls, of which I purchased one. The dolls were being sold as seconds, since they had slight stains from hair on the back of the necks. The stains on this doll were nearly invisible. I received only the wrist tag, no box and no COA, perhaps because she was a seconds. On the back of her head are two tiny holes, which I believe to be the mark that she is a seconds. I think she wishes I would fill in those two tiny seconds holes and find her a certificate and a Kish box. Instead, I told her that orphans and adopted kids are wonderful just the way they are. I also told her that everyone has "holes" (imperfections) of one kind or another. I certainly do! Kiera found a loving home with Janet.

Kiera's Heirloom Quality Dress by Jeanne |

Bonnie's turquoise-hanky dress was designed by Marsha of Hankie Couture.
The dress has bright turquoise flowers and a matching scalloped border on the hem and sleeves! The skirt is very full, the sleeves are short and tightly gathered. The matching lined-hat can be worn either way. Also included is a white-lace-slip sundress that can be worn alone or paired with the dress. The slip has lace panels on each side and a wide deep lace hem. The bodice has a small lace overlay. The bodices on both dresses are lined and snap in the back. |
About this doll . . .
Kiera, a VINYL Doll has five (5) points of articulation (joints), at her neck, shoulders, and hips. Her interior "stringing" is neither too loose nor too tight ~ it is just right. At 11 inches, she is the same size as Bitty Bethany, with whom she can share clothing. With her flat feet bases, she can stand barefoot on her own. KISH MARKS: There is an impressed mark on the back of her head near the neck: Brynne 2007 Kish & Company. I signed my name there, too. Each arm and leg has an impressed mark: 2003 Kish & Co.
NEW CUSTOM one-of-a-kind CLOTHING by Jeanne
eBay name = idreamofjeannemarie
I asked Jeanne to design a dress for Kiera. New cotton fabric ~ the blues and yellow compliment each other, while pink highlights it all. The collar of Swiss dots has ribbon embroidery and French knots. Lace accents the sleeves and skirt, while tiny-checked-fabric accents the waist. Since the back fully opens by snaps, the dress is easy to remove. The collar is detachable with a snap, if you wish to remove it. Kiera wears a half slip and undies, too.
HER KISH CLOTHES: Bitty Brynne came with an embroidered jumper, felt on the bodice and corduroy on the skirt, a hidden zipper in back. It has a green shirt, a crocheted cap, black stockings and boots that lace up the back and tie. The outfit has an Old World peasant look.
HER EYES: Her eyes sparkle with a mix of green and blue-gray. She has many very-fine eyelashes (upper & lower) and feathered eyebrows using varied colors.
WIG: I trimmed Kiera's long cascading waves, which feel to me like synthetic mohair. I snipped tendrils and bangs to frame her face, which I curled. I French-braided the sides of her hair and secured the braids in the back. With fine cotton (black) thread, I wove glass beads into her braids in colors of crystal, violet and green. Her new dress has a matching hair bow, too.
PHOTOS: Nancy Lee took all photos in natural daylight coming in her studio window.
Nancy is a portrait artist ~ not a doll distributor, dealer, or shop.
HER NAME: In Irish Gaelic, the name Kiera means dark-haired, which seems to suit her just right.
FINISH:
Resin-oil glow (gloss) on eyes and satin gloss on lips
A thin veil of clear matte (non-shiny) varnish on rest of her face.
About Kiera's friend Bonnie:
Metro Line Riley with her darling pigtails was a limited edition doll in 2007-2008 by Kish & Company, usually priced at $180.00.
She has joints at her knees & hips, elbows & shoulders, and neck. Her turquoise hanky dress was designed by Marsha of Hankie Couture.
COLOR & PAINTING: Some computer screens may modify the color of the art. Some may make the image lighter or darker than it is. The doll has finer detail and more subtle coloring than a computer-jpeg-photo can show.
After removing all factory paint, I am using artist-grade alkyd-oil paints (in thin translucent glazes) with the addition of alkyd resin to make the paint surface become as flexible as the doll’s vinyl skin and to make it adhere well. I finely sand (Q-tip and finest pumice) the surface before painting it for better adhesion.

Nancy Lee Moran's POLICY TO SHOW RESPECT FOR HELEN KISH & other doll creators is as follows:
The dolls I use were factory painted. I would never repaint a doll that the artist (Helen Kish) had painted herself, such as some of those in the Kish Signature Line. I would not paint one in a limited edition of fewer than 300 (preferably 500 or more). I consult the beautiful book I own:
Helen Kish: The Artist and Her Dolls by Louise Fecher (hardcover published in 2006). I am NOT affiliated with any doll company, creator or manufacturer.
