Lynell Morgan took this photo when she and Nancy Lee visited the Printery House, a publisher of greeting cards, in the Missouri countryside one summer. We walked to nearby Conception Abbey, where we spied these funny frogs and grabbed a camera. Nancy Lee Moran painted this image with oil glazes, adding each color by hand. The original 14x10 art was sold by Lewis Art Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska in 2006.

Lotus Flower Umbrella

This July morning the sun is hot, hot, hot. How do you like our pink beach umbrella, a lovely lotus flower? Too much sun can burn our skin, just like yours.

With five of us, we can look in five directions to spot dangers. Tiny, but smart, that’s us. If you try to catch us, our slimy skin helps us to slip from your fingers. Our skin has to stay moist with water. Instead of drinking water the way humans do, we absorb water through our skins. If you were me, you would put your bare feet into a pan of water to “drink,” instead of having a tall glass of lemonade with ice cubes.

When you draw with crayons, it's okay to use N E W - C O L O R S. Though the lotus flower here was really pale yellow, I used colors of red and peach in the art. You may like to make a tree purple or to make the sky yellow. Have fun with art!
