I painted four versions of a gingerbread cottage during 2006 for my own collection. This one has a surrealistic and nostalgic look, with an old spice tin of ginger, a child's antique rolling pin, a Man in the Moon, a spider web on the street sign, and a decorated pinwheel cookie with candy corn in the right lower corner.
A few viewers said it reminded them of "childhood storybooks read by parents," like Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and fairy tales. Some said they could smell cinnamon and ginger when seeing the art.
