It is an oil painting of popcorn-cranberry garlands and ornaments on a small spruce tree in my (the artist's) yard.
Following a fresh snow in December 2013, I sewed garlands and draped them on a small spruce tree, for painting inspiration. My mother taught her children to string popcorn and cranberries at Christmas holidays. A long, fine needle works best to make garlands, so as not to crack the popcorn. Squirrels and birds enjoy these edible garlands.
As the sun lowered in afternoon, I took photos with a simple digital camera.
I usually make more changes when using a photo for reference. With the spruce tree, however, other than adding ornaments, I tried to respect and trust the trueness of the tree and its snow draping, to be faithful to its own design, to learn from studying nature.
